Education and Child Labour in Cambodia

Ten years ago I worked with Cambodian colleagues conducting a study on child labour in small-scale agriculture. The main focus was on exploring how supporting education might reduce the pressure on poor children to work in agriculture. We came across wonderfully dedicated teachers experimenting with child-centred learning methods. But as these images illustrate, they are desperately short of basic resources.
One of the most surprising findings was that the pressure on small-scale subsistence farming in Cambodia is driving many families to migrate as a whole. So providing education support to their home villages will not address the issue - as people are no longer so rooted to their villages.
